After the success of their Scallop Primo Pizza, Shakey’s once again led the pizza innovation by launching their newest creation, the Cali Kani Pizza. It is a California Maki and a pizza rolled into one. This pizza is loaded with kani, cucumber, peaches, fish roe, and topped with nori (seaweed) strips.
Last week, we were invited by Shakey’s Philippines to try their latest creation. It was truly a unique experience as we wouldn’t have thought that the ingredients of a California Maki can be made to a pizza. It had a mouthful of flavors, you have the buttery Japanese sesame dressing as base sauce, then topped with chunky kani that gave texture, diced cucumbers that gave coolness, sliced peaches that gave color and sweetness, and strips of nori that gave a hint of saltiness.
Shakey’s Cali Kani Pizza is available nationwide and for a limited time only. It is best when shared with friends and family, and eaten together with their Chicken N’Mojos and a pitcher of ice cold soda. Though we don’t consider this to be our new favorite pizza, we still recommend you to try it and see for yourself.
